The short version

This site has no accounts and no user database. Your answers to a test are scored in your browser and never leave it. Two things need a server and are described below: playing against a friend, and choosing to save a run to the Board of Fame. The server also keeps an anonymous count of how often each game is started, and the site shows ads from Google AdSense.

What we do not collect

We do not ask for your name, email address, or any other identifying detail, because there is nowhere to put it. There is no sign-up, no login, and no profile.

Your answers to any test are never transmitted. Scoring runs entirely in your browser using code that was already downloaded with the page. We cannot see your responses, because they never reach us. This holds whether you play alone, in a room, or save a score to the Board of Fame — none of those carry the answers or keystrokes that produced the number, only the number itself.

Playing against someone

Playing against a friend is one of two features here that need a server, because two browsers cannot see each other without one. When you make or join a room, three things are sent: the name you typed, a random identifier generated in your browser to tell players apart, and your score as it changes.

That is the whole list. Your answers are not sent — a room carries the number you reached, never the keystrokes or choices that produced it. No account is attached to any of it, and the identifier is a random string with nothing derived from you in it.

Rooms are held in a Redis database run by Upstash and expire automatically an hour after the last activity in them. Nothing is archived, and there is no record of who played with whom once a room has gone. If you never open a room, none of this applies to you and nothing leaves your browser.

Saving to the Board of Fame

A game that keeps a Board of Fame offers to save your run once it is good enough to make the top ten. This is the other feature that needs a server. If you save, three things are sent: the name and optional note you typed, and your score.

That is the whole list. It is not tied to any account, there is no way for us or anyone else to connect it back to you, and skipping it — which is always offered right alongside saving — sends nothing at all.

Saved runs are held in the same Redis database as multiplayer rooms, but do not expire the way a room does: a board keeps its best ten runs until a better one pushes an older one off. If you never save a run, none of this applies to you and nothing leaves your browser.

Counting plays

When you start a game, the server adds one to a counter for that game — an all-time total, and a daily one that is deleted after about a week. That is how the home page orders games and how "Trending this week" is worked out.

The counter holds a number per game and nothing else: no name, no identifier, no IP address, and nothing about how you played.

What is stored on your device

Your theme preference (system, light, dark, or Pulse), saved in your browser's localStorage under the key "pag-theme". It exists so the site does not flash the wrong colour scheme when you return. It contains no identifier and is never sent anywhere.

If you save a run to a Board of Fame, a small marker remembers which row was yours — just the name and timestamp you saved, under a key named for that game — so the site can still highlight it as "You" if you come back later. It never leaves your browser and has no bearing on what anyone else sees.

You can clear either at any time by clearing site data in your browser. Nothing else on this site will notice or care.

If you share a result, the score is encoded into the link you copy. That link is created in your browser and goes wherever you choose to send it. We are not a party to it, and result links are excluded from search engines.

Analytics

Google Analytics runs automatically on this site. It works by loading a script from Google, which sets a cookie in your browser and sends Google a record of the page you are on, your approximate location from your IP address, and general device information such as browser and screen size. This is how we see which games and articles get used and which do not — nothing more granular than that.

Google Analytics never receives your name, your test answers, or the score you got — those exist only in this app's own code, and Google's script has no way to reach them. Google may combine what it does receive with data from other sites and apps that use its services; see Google's own privacy policy for how it handles that.

You can still block it at the browser level, by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or using your browser's tracking-protection settings.

If live presence is enabled, the site separately and always stores a random session identifier and its last-seen time to show an approximate live-player count — this is not Google Analytics, is not tied to your name or account, and expires quickly.

Advertising

This site shows ads served by Google AdSense. They pay for hosting and keep every game free.

Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. Where the law requires it, Google asks for your consent before doing so.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com), and learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.

Ads never receive your answers, your scores or anything you type into a game — those stay in this app's own code, out of reach of any ad script.

Hosting logs

The site is served by a hosting provider, which — like any web server — records ordinary request information such as IP address, user agent, and the page requested. These logs exist to keep the service running and to stop abuse. We do not combine them with anything else, because there is nothing else to combine them with.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone. Since no personal data is collected from any visitor, there is nothing for us to delete on request — but if something here concerns you, the contact route is below.
