Odd One Out

Find the thing that does not belong. Some are obvious. Some are rude.

Fifteen quick classification puzzles. Four things look like they belong together, but one has quietly wandered into the wrong group.

The trick is deciding what rule actually holds. Sometimes it is the obvious property. Sometimes the obvious rule is bait, and the odd one out is hiding one level deeper.

There is no timer. You are here to spot the rule, not to prove your ability to panic under fluorescent lighting.

How it works

  • Fifteen questions, four options, one defensible odd one out.
  • The first stage warms up with obvious groupings. Later stages make the rule less polite.
  • Every miss comes back with the actual rule and why the other choices fit it.
  • Your result is a score out of 15 plus a stage-by-stage breakdown.

Common questions

Is this an IQ test?
No. It is a set of reasoning puzzles and it does not produce an IQ score.
Why are some questions tricky?
Because the obvious rule is sometimes only the first rule you notice. The later questions ask you to look one level deeper.
Is there a time limit?
No. Take the time you need. The point is the classification, not your typing speed.
Why do I get an explanation?
Because knowing you missed a question is much less useful than knowing which rule you overlooked.

This is a short set of classification puzzles, not a validated measure of intelligence. It tells you how you did on these fifteen questions. Nothing more dramatic than that.
