Lockword

Guess the five-letter word in six tries, on a combination lock.

One five-letter word a day, six tries to find it, and the usual colours after each try: green is the right letter in the right spot, yellow is in the word somewhere else, grey is not in it at all.

The catch is that you can’t type. Each letter is a dial on a combination lock, and you spin it to the letter you want. Letters you get right click into place and stay there.

Everyone gets the same word on the same day, and a new one arrives at midnight your time. The English and Indonesian words are separate lists, so playing both means two different words.

How it works

  • Spin each dial to a letter: drag it up or down, scroll over it, or tap the arrows above and below.
  • On a keyboard, ← and → pick a dial, ↑ and ↓ spin it, and Enter tries the combination.
  • The combination has to be a real word. One that isn’t doesn’t cost a try.
  • Letters that can’t be in the word are dimmed on the dials, but you can still spin to them.
  • Stuck? 💡 Clue opens one letter for you, and costs two tries.

Common questions

Why can’t I just type?
Because it’s a lock. Spinning the dials is the whole twist: you have to commit to each letter on purpose, and the letters you’ve ruled out stay visible on the wheel as you go past them.
Can I play it with a keyboard?
Yes. ← and → move between dials, ↑ and ↓ spin the one you’re on, and Enter tries the combination. Letter keys do nothing, on purpose.
When does the word change?
At midnight by your device’s clock. Everyone plays the same word on the same date, but someone in another time zone may get tomorrow’s word a few hours before or after you.
How do repeated letters work?
A letter only lights up as many times as it appears in the word, greens first: guess a word with two Ps against an answer with one, and only one of them is coloured.
Why doesn’t a friend’s link show the word?
So it can’t spoil your day. A shared result carries only the colours, never the letters.

Lockword is a word puzzle, not a measure of anything. Your streak and progress are kept in this browser only and won’t follow you to another device.
