Snake
Eat, grow, don’t bite yourself. The old phone classic, faster and greedier.
Play against a friend
Make a room, send the link, and race on the same apples at the same time. Every golden apple you eat drops rocks on everyone else.
The game everyone played on a hand-me-down phone, rebuilt for a thumb. Steer the snake to the apple, grow one segment, and try not to run into the wall or your own tail as it gets longer and the game gets quicker.
Then the extras that make it hard to put down: a golden apple that disappears in five seconds, a combo multiplier for eating in quick succession, and a Free Roam mode where the walls wrap round but rocks start to appear. Race friends on the same apples and every golden one you eat drops rocks on their board.
How it works
- Swipe, use the arrow keys, or tap the arrows under the board to turn. You cannot turn straight back on yourself.
- Each apple is 10 points and one more segment. Eat the next within three seconds and the multiplier climbs, up to ×5.
- A golden apple is 50 points and two segments, but it is gone in five seconds. In a race it also drops two rocks on everyone else’s board.
- Classic: the wall ends the run. Free Roam: the edges wrap round, and a rock appears every six apples. New rocks blink for a moment before they are solid.
- Every five apples the snake speeds up. Press P or Space to pause a solo run.
Common questions
- What is the difference between Classic and Free Roam?
- Classic is the original: touch the wall and the run is over. In Free Roam the edges wrap round to the other side, so the wall never kills you, but a rock appears every six apples and the board slowly fills up. Each mode keeps its own board.
- How does the combo work?
- Eat an apple within three seconds of the last one and the multiplier goes up by one, to a maximum of ×5. It applies to golden apples too. Wait longer than three seconds and it drops back to ×1, so a long chase to a far apple costs you the combo.
- How does a race work?
- Make a room, send the link, and everyone plays at the same time on their own board with apples in the same places. Each golden apple you eat drops two rocks on every other player’s board. The highest score once everyone is out wins.
- Can I play with a keyboard?
- Yes. Arrow keys or WASD to turn, P or Space to pause. On a phone, swipe anywhere on the board or use the arrows underneath it.
- Is my score saved?
- Your best score per mode is remembered on this device. To put a run on the shared board, press “Save score” after the game and type a name. Nothing is saved anywhere unless you do.
A game, for fun. Scores on the board are whatever players saved, with no accounts and no checking beyond sane limits, so treat a suspiciously perfect run with the suspicion it deserves.
