Team Maker

Fair teams, a random turn order, or one name picked — in one tap.

Futsal on Saturday, a quiz night, a group project, a board game with too many players: somebody always has to split everyone up, and somebody always thinks it was rigged. Team Maker does it at random, in front of everyone, so there’s nothing to argue about.

Type the names once, one per line, and choose what you need: teams of even size, a shuffled order for who goes first, or a random pick of one or more people. Names are dealt out one at a time like cards, and each team gets a silly name so nobody has to be "Team 2".

The names stay on this device for next time, and the result copies straight into your group chat.

How it works

  • Type the names, one per line. Up to sixty.
  • Choose teams, a random order, or pick someone.
  • For teams, choose how many. Sizes never differ by more than one person.
  • Deal again as often as you like, then copy the result to share it.

Common questions

Are the teams really random?
Yes. The list is shuffled fresh every time and then dealt one name per team in turn, which keeps team sizes within one of each other.
What’s the star next to one name?
The first name dealt to each team is marked as captain, handy when someone has to pick the jersey colour or speak for the team. Ignore it if you don’t need one.
Can I pick just one person?
Choose "Pick someone" and set how many. It’s the quickest way to decide who goes first, who washes up, or who wins a small giveaway among friends.
Are the names saved?
The last list you typed is kept in this browser so you don’t have to type it again. It isn’t sent anywhere.

Every split is random: the names are shuffled fresh each time and dealt out in turn, so no one is placed on purpose. It doesn’t know who is good at what, so if the teams feel lopsided, deal again.

Okay, now pick another
